Our container full of medical equipment and mobility devices is arriving at the port of Mombasa TOMORROW! Then begins the process of customs and clearing so that the container can make the long journey from the coast to Nakuru. We are very excited to begin our mobility project again, albeit a bit differently than before. Updates to come as we navigate customs. Thank you to everyone making this project happen.

Donation drop off this morning in Dortmund. We brought men clothes, toothpaste, showergel, socks and deodorant to a hygiene center for homeless people in the center of Dortmund.

Every single one of The Nathan Hall Williams Center disability enterprise group members runs a small business. Their businesses are what feed their families, pay their rent and school fees, and secure their futures. #Covid19 has taken a tremendous toll on the informal sector, taking a large majority of small businesses down with it. We strongly believe that in times like these, we are able to do must be committed to bridging the gap for people with disabilities. Thanks to your support, we do just that once again this month. Our monetary contribution to each family means they can keep their small businesses afloat, keep their roof over their head, and keep food on the table. It’s a small gesture that we are grateful to be able to make. Thank you to all of you supporting our work and making it possible!

Finally after so many months we could do a donation drop-off at de Regenboog in Amsterdam. We brought men clothing, showergel, toothpaste, deodorant, socks & sleeping bags, which will be divided in their 7 walk-in houses. In these walk-in houses homeless people can take a shower or have a shave, exchange their clothes, or get social help from experts. They always appreciate our support.

Finally! Our latest container with wheelchairs and medical equipment is on it's way to Kenya. This morning the container has been picked in Hemer. First going to Duisburg, from there going to Antwerp. On June 2nd expected to leave from Antwerp to Kenya. If everything goes right arrives in Mombasa the first week of July. We keep you posted! We want to thank everyone who donated for this project and also citizen foundation "Wenn's im Leben Brennt" for their partnership and logistic sponsorship from Germany to Kenya.

The situation in Kenya is growing increasingly worrisome for families. We have been speaking with the government, our local partners, and to community leaders in order to meet the needs that arise during this crisis. Right now, more than anything, we need to help the families NHWC has worked with for years. Vulnerable people living in low income communities are being affected countrywide. Looking for daily bread is difficult (for some, impossible even) as there is less and less work to be found. People with disabilities are at an even greater risk of not only contracting the virus but of marginalization and economic hardship.
...
We want to step in and help. We have donated €3500 to help 50 families of people with disabilities over the next three months. This money will allow us to provide enough items each month to sustain a family of six.

We know this is a hard time for everyone. We raised the funds for this project through our DIY mask project so thank you for your continued support. If you can, please consider helping us!

Over the last weeks we have been supporting our neighbors Die Lüdenscheider Tafel, a local food bank, with the distribution of food packages to needy people in our town.

Since the corona virus outbreak our local food bank is closed until May.  We joined an initiative which was started by several local organizations, Die Lüdenscheider Tafel, Glücksbringer eV and Willi&Söhne, to collect and bring food to people who are in quarantine or are in need. Through an online and newspaper call up people were informed if they need food. Distributions were done weekly, likely the last tour is next week. Early May our neighbors will reopen.

„Alone we can do so little, together we can do so much“

Water filter project update: Thank you so much to all of you who have shown support for our water filter project over the last week. Clean water is so important to good health and hygiene and that’s even more important than ever in these trying times. At the moment we are waiting for a directive from the Kenyan government. We hope to be able to continue with one on one distributions in the coming weeks. We will keep you updated!

We are sad to say that our clinic with The Nathan Hall Williams Centerthis week has been postponed due to corona virus. We are doing our part to follow the directive from the Kenyan government by not holding public gatherings of any kind until further notice. We will however be on call should individuals need emergency healthcare and/or medication and if food security becomes an issue for families in need. We will let you know the new clinic date as soon as we know more. Thank you for all of your support!
