Construction on the first permanent hand washing station starts today in Ndondori! Our partners @nhwc_kenya are on the ground with the mason collecting all of the materials. Progress updates to come over the next few days!

Thank you so much to everyone who has donated so far. We’re trying to raise enough money to build ten of these in rural health clinics in Nakuru. These hand washing stations will help communities stay healthier now and in future. Can you help us reach our goal?

We’ve learned a lot about Covid and what we know for sure is that hand hygiene plays a huge role in staying safe. We’ve also realized that the majority of community based health facilities in Kenya lack water and a place for everyone to wash their hands. We want to make sure that health facilities are equipped to handle this pandemic, and every other challenge that arises after this as well. Hospitals should be a place where people can go to get well and hygiene is the number one most effective tool to make that happen. We want to raise 3500€ to build TEN permanent hand washing stations at TEN CLINICS in rural Kenya. Can you help us?

This week we sponsored medical clinics in Nakuru north with our partners The Nathan Hall Williams Center. We provided comprehensive reproductive health and well child services to all in need. We also went to local schools and provided health screenings, health and hygiene information sessions, and HPV vaccines to all girls. Thank you to all of you for making this possible!

This week we sponsored two clinics with our partners @nhwc in Ndondori for everything women’s health! We provided much needed antenatal care, family planning, cervical cancer screening, breast cancer screening, well-baby check ups and childhood immunizations, and health education on disease prevention, hygiene, and COVID. We are so glad to be back on the ground providing primary healthcare to anyone in need!
...
We are taking extra precautions as COVID cases in Kenya are rising. This means smaller groups of people over the course of a couple of days, rather than the big clinics of the past.

Yesterday was the second clinic of the month and proved much more challenging for our partners The Nathan Hall Williams Center than the first. This time they moved to a more rural village and it was clear that planting season and growing food takes precedent over healthcare during these trying times. Nevertheless, we provided comprehensive women’s health services to all who came.

Despite having been sensitized and trained on covid prevention, we didn’t witness anyone taking simple precautions such as wearing masks, social distancing, and the like. This is an area we need to spend much more time in. We are brainstorming ideas for several different health centered projects in the region. Your contribution allows us to reach these communities and to empower them through healthcare, training, and resource mobilization. Thank you for your support!

#HHFSLEEPOUT

On Saturday 25 September we will organize our second HHF Sleep Out. Another action to draw attention to the issue of homelessness.

The number of homeless people is increasingly rising - the Corona crisis is exacerbating the problem. At the same time, the pandemic is making conditions more difficult than ever for people without shelter.

The cold weather is just around the corner and we want to collect more donations with another action to support further different institutions and initiatives in the cold months. For example, with a €18, - donation you can already distribute a winterproof sleeping bag.

Everyone can participate, we challenge you to sleep outside, with friends at home in the garden, on the balcony, in the car, etc..

If you want to join use the #hhfsleepout or the donations link:

Today we sponsored a youth training and clinic in Ndondori. 220 young people learned all about puberty, hygiene, wellbeing, sexual health, lifestyle diseases, and Covid. They were given medication where necessary and those who were old enough were given family planning of their choice. Girls were also given the HPV vaccine. A great success for one of our first clinics back on the ground!

Arrived safely! Finally the container with medical equipment has made it to it‘s new home The Nathan Hall Williams Center in Nakuru, Kenya. Thank you all so much for making this possible! There are hundreds of people waiting to get medical equipment. We're looking forward to see the distributions in the next weeks/months.

Delivery of donated men clothes and merchandise, showergel and deodorant to Solidarité Grands Froids, facility in the center of Brussels supporting homeless people. They are always welcoming and thankful for the donations.

Community health volunteers are arguably the most important stakeholder we work with for our health projects. They work tirelessly inside people’s homes, spending their time educating, making referrals to hospitals and clinics, collecting vital data, and acting as a sounding board for their neighbors and beyond. Their work is even more important now that many clinics and hospitals are out of reach or inaccessible due to Covid.

As part of our commitment to healthcare, we are taking our “clinics” to the homes of those most in need. On Friday last week, we sponsored a training for 30 new community health volunteers in Nakuru north. They went through an intensive 10 day training to learn everything primary healthcare — family planning, antenatal care, immunization, nutrition, hygiene, HIV, Malaria, Tuberculosis, life skills, and more!
...
These skills are extremely vital as the volunteers are the first point of contact in the community. Over the next few weeks we will share more of what goes on at the household level and how we are continuing to provide primary healthcare in these changing times.

Our container has been spotted in Nairobi today. Last week on July 7th it arrived safely in Mombasa. At the moment our container full with medical equipment is in the verification area and last phase and hopefully arriving at it’s new home The Nathan Hall Williams Center in Nakuru soon. Exciting!
